Mova Heathrow

Mova Restaurant Heathrow – Sri Lankan & Indian Dining With a Serious Bit of Theatre

Heathrow might be better known for departure boards, delayed flights and paying suspicious amounts of money for a bottle of water, but just outside the airport there's something considerably more exciting cooking.

Meet Mova Restaurant.

Located at Movela House on the Colnbrook By-Pass, just minutes from Heathrow Airport, Mova brings together Sri Lankan and Indian cooking with a modern, theatrical edge. This isn't simply somewhere to grab a curry before catching the 7:40 to Dubai. Mova has gone big.

Think live cooking stations, sizzling hotplates, an open kitchen, Robata flames, cocktails, a dedicated lounge and enough spice floating around the place to make your average airport hotel buffet look rather nervous.

Sri Lanka Meets India

The food is where Mova really starts showing off.

The menu moves between Indian favourites and the punchier flavours of Sri Lankan cooking, so you can find dishes such as Delhi-style butter chicken, Jaffna mutton curry, lamb biryani, chicken tikka, Amritsari fish and grilled lamb chops alongside Sri Lankan favourites such as chicken Kottu Roti and mutton rolls.

And this isn't a menu designed for people who consider black pepper adventurous.

There are proper spices, coconut, curry leaves, chilli, garlic, smoky grilled meats and rich sauces running through the menu.

Our advice? Arrive hungry.

Very hungry.

The Kottu Station Deserves Some Attention

One of Mova's more interesting features is its Kottu station.

If you've never had Kottu before, you're missing out. It's one of Sri Lanka's great comfort foods — chopped roti cooked on a scorching hotplate with vegetables, spices and meat.

At Mova, the preparation becomes part of the entertainment.

You'll hear it before you eat it.

The rhythmic clack-clack-clack of the blades chopping everything together across the hotplate is basically the Sri Lankan equivalent of a dinner bell.

And then you get to eat it.

Much better than a dinner bell.

Then There's the Robata Grill

Sitting at the heart of Mova's open kitchen is the Robata Grill.

Flames, smoke and beautifully charred meat and seafood — exactly the sort of thing we like to see happening while waiting for dinner.

Rather than hiding everything behind a kitchen door, Mova makes cooking part of the experience. The Robata grill provides that slightly theatrical element that turns dinner into something you actually remember the following morning.

It's Not Just Dinner

Mova has clearly decided that feeding people isn't enough.

There's also a cocktail bar and first-floor lounge.

The bar serves cocktails, mocktails and premium spirits, while the upstairs lounge offers somewhere a little more relaxed to settle into after dinner.

Which creates a dangerous little scenario.

"We'll just have one drink after dinner."

Three cocktails later...

"Should we order another Kottu?"

Probably.

And Save Room for Dessert

This is important.

Don't make the classic buffet mistake.

You know the one.

Plate one: sensible.

Plate two: adventurous.

Plate three: you've apparently decided you're preparing for hibernation.

Then you spot the desserts.

Mova has a dedicated dessert and pastry station, with a selection of sweet treats and freshly baked pastries completing the experience.

So pace yourself.

City Lynx has warned you.

The Vibe

Mova feels more like a destination restaurant than somewhere you simply stumble across near an airport.

There's a vibrant restaurant downstairs, the theatre of the live cooking stations, cocktails flowing at the bar and a more relaxed lounge upstairs.

It works for date nights, birthdays, family dinners, celebrations and groups, while Mova also caters for private and corporate events.

And because it's sitting right beside Heathrow, it's also an interesting option for travellers staying locally who want something considerably more memorable than another night eating a club sandwich in a hotel lobby.

What City Lynx Would Order

Start with the grilled lamb chops or Amritsari fish.

Then things get serious.

The Jaffna Mutton Curry brings the Sri Lankan spice, while the Delhi-style Butter Chicken provides the rich, creamy comfort-food option.

But we'd struggle to visit Mova without ordering the Chicken Kottu Roti.

Finish with something sweet.

Then head upstairs for a cocktail.

Taxi home strongly recommended.

City Lynx Verdict

Mova is one of those places that makes you wonder why nobody told you about it sooner.

Sri Lankan cooking, Indian favourites, live food stations, Robata flames, Kottu crashing away on the hotplate and cocktails upstairs — it's certainly not playing it safe.

And that's precisely why we like it.

If you're staying near Heathrow, heading home from the airport or simply fancy trying somewhere different around West London, Mova deserves a spot on the list.

Just don't book an early flight the following morning.

You may still be recovering from the Kottu.
